Key to a GREAT RMC

Bread.

That’s really all ya need.  Just lots and lots and lots of bread.  Big fat crusty bread and you must slather it with brie and preserves or drench it in olive oil and balsamic and of course have a big fat stick of good ol’ fashioned butter handy.  You must also eat it with more carbs like Pesto Primavera then finish it off with triple chocolate cheesecake.

The truth is screw Dr. Atkins.  Carbs makeus all happy and he is dead so there you have it.  ‘Nuff said.  Let there NEVER EVER be a Carb Ffree RMC gathering…. EVER.  It will be grounds for banishment.

In the Begining….

Not too long ago I got together with a group of women I know at a friend’s house in the country. We got together potluck style and a few hours into the evening it came to pass that all of us were moms… out for the evening… kid free.  It was thus christened The Runaway Moms Club.  There was a ton of food, lots of dessert, wine and smokes.  There we all were in some comfortable clothes (some of us in PJ’s) laughing and relaxed and so damn happy to not have anyone hanging from our boobs, whining in our ears or the developing the compulsion to break up some fights.  No one was bitching at each other and no one was asking any of us for anything.

Damn it felt good.

From there it has evolved in an informal manner.  What started off as a joke then became something we have all come to look forward to.  Our group has grown in numbers and whenever any of us speak about The RMC somewhere there is another tired mom within earshot who says “ooohhh… I wanna come….please” and of course she is invited.  Many of us have been moms for awhile with teenagers, some of us are new moms who have already discovered that it’s not always like they make it out to be on TLC.  There are single moms, married moms and every combination there-of your mind can come up with.  There are those of us with one child and those of us that could give the Dugger family a run for their money.    Economics and politics seem to fall to the waste side and the truth is all of us are just so damn grateful to have a friggen night off.

So there ya have it! That is how The RMC was born.  Sometimes we are all able to make it and sometimes some folks can’t get a sitter or have a recital or have to play nice to some relative from out of town.  It’s totally fine though because there is always another RMC event coming up and room for everyone.

So what are you waiting for? Get crackin’ and make your own RMC and take the night off.
